Garment Care at Home
Wearing
To begin, we believe it is important to mention the role of personal hygiene when maintaining your garments. Should you find yourself generally sweating during the day, we highly recommend using deodorant. Otherwise, the odor will manifest itself in the cloth and permanently damage your favourite garment. We recommend using non-staining deodorants to protect the colour of the cloth. There are many options to choose from. Make sure to take the time to explore them and find your personal favourite.
When wearing your garments, we generally recommend not to wash them after one single use, unless necessary. Make sure to either place them neatly in your wardrobe, hang or fold them instead of dropping them onto the floor or throwing them on furniture. Also, why not give them a little shake, place them on a hanger and air them. This will freshen them up so they will be good to accompany you for another day or two!
Should you have a stain on your garment, spot treat it immediately. Old stains are almost impossible to remove. There are great tips and tricks to be found online on how to treat different stains on different fabrics.
Do not leave dirty garments somewhere hidden in your wardrobe as it can become a target for moths. Make sure to wash your clothing instead of letting it pile up in a corner or in the laundry room.
Washing
Once you feel it is time to wash your garment, make sure to read the care label instructions and symbols thoroughly so your garments are cared for properly.

We recommend not to wash your garments on high temperature as it will age them very quickly. Find a detergent that is delicate to the cloth and doesn’t contain bleach. Please do not use garment softeners. Not only is it unnecessary but also damaging to the cloth and tends to fade colours.
Make sure to remove your garments right after washing. Give them a little shake to help unfold the cloth and eliminate wrinkles. Keeping garments wet in the washing machine can cause mould and mildew, something we want to prevent at all costs.
Drying
Do not tumble dry your garments. Air dry them. Use hangers or clothing racks and place them in an open space where there is good air circulation. This can be near open doors or windows. Heated rooms are also suitable, but make sure to keep your garments away from radiators and ventilators. Do not dry your garments under direct sunlight as it will fade the colours.
Ironing
When it comes to ironing, firstly we would like to note that many garments don’t need ironing. To minimise or even prevent ironing, we recommend you try setting your washing machine on ‘reduced creases’ or ‘reduce wrinkles’ cycle or to reduce the washing cycle altogether. This way your garments will come out wetter and tend to dry almost crease-free if hung or placed neatly on your drying rack. Remember to take out your garments right after washing to prevent wrinkling and to give them a little shake and stretch before placing them on the rack.
Should you find it necessary to iron a garment, make sure to check the care label first before setting your iron on the appropriate temperature. A great and more gentle option is using a steamer as they are less harmful to the fabric fibres.
For cotton, wool and linen we recommend using the steam option on the iron. It will gently smoothen out the cloth and allow the garment to flatten more easily.
Storing
For storing, make sure to hang your garments in a cool and dry space. Not only to keep them clean and organised, but also to protect them from moths. Anyone with a significant wardrobe should take proactive steps in protecting their wardrobe against clothing moths. Garments that are frequently worn are of less concern, however, should you have garments that are kept in storage for a long time, these are the pieces that are most likely to fall victim to moths.
For suits, dresses and coats, we highly recommend using cotton garment bags as they allow the garment to breathe and offer greater protection against moths as moths don’t eat cotton. Otherwise, we recommend storage boxes. Just make sure they are well-sealed.
Clean your wardrobe frequently. Turning on the light and always closing the door after use will also help protect your garments from moths.
Lastly, the best way to safeguard your wardrobe from moths is to actively rotate your garments. Make sure to wear them or take them out for a little shake every now and then. That little bit of movement will help to prevent your wardrobe from being manifested by moths.
